Flower number 3, The Crocus

Very quick painting of a crocus, not sure I'm very happy with it - looks a bit stiff, so I may rework it to give it more movement and shine. Movement in a composition is something that I've become more concerned with recently - I think that in botanical  painting it can get overlooked because of the focus on  technical accuracy.

  1. I love these flowers have seen a lot of people's pics of them lately - I don't have them where I live. They are such a beautiful colour and I love your composition - it certainly has movement.

  2. I love it and I'm happy for you that you finally got back to painting again. I really love the little bulb and yes, a bit more shine on the petals would help. But you did a wonderful job after having a long time of not painting. I know how hard it can be.

  3. It's just so beautiful Dianne, so light and delicate and the flower looks as if it is breathing, I too think that you have beautiful movement in it!

  5. It has a bit of sway, but I know what you mean. We are all striving for that certain 'little something' that takes our work out of the purely technical.

  7. Dianne, I think it is quite lovely and fresh-looking, and doesn't strike me as stiff at all. I do appreciate your comment about botanical art though--very thought provoking. The depiction of light does seem to be key in keeping a painting lively and fresh, don't you think?
