I have indeed tried with my pounce (as well as my small lifting brush)and this was successful to a certain extent but the stain and a very dirty/grainy effect is left ... making all that I put on top look dirty. I did add a bit of blue to the body paint but to my eye it looks so thick and different to all around it . Aaargh! I am gently trying to lay down colour around the area of the body paint and it keeps mixing into all next to it ( a little strait ion of lighter blue violet) ... alas I will plod on. Just wondered if you have had this problem - trouble is, it's the main bud ! maryellenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04650398903057389834noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6401160288631130110.post-73118714671411257322017-07-31T03:37:06.054-07:002017-07-31T03:37:06.054-07:00Hi Mary Ellen, yes you can use some body colour bu...Hi Mary Ellen, yes you can use some body colour but I'd be more inclined to mix it with your blue rather than adding a layer first. Have you tried removing it with pumice powder or is it well and truly stained? I hope we can remedy this sometime soon ... I have a question for you: I'm doing a little painting on manuscript vellum of an opening agapanthus bud and managed to get the colour too violet, tried lifting and the vellum is of course stained underneath ... preventing me putting down a lighter bluer tone - just looks muddy :-( have you ever used body paint ? I am dreading this but feel the only way to tackle this is to lay down the thinnest white with some blue to then paint over ... definitely not what vellum is made for but I am totally stuck and this bud is the biggest, brightest one in front ! Oh woe .. can't bear the thought of starting again - need to give it to its owner in one week. I'm desperate and hope you don't mind me asking you - many many thanks, Mary Ellen (Taylor)maryellenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04650398903057389834noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6401160288631130110.post-63568061477939193872014-09-13T02:23:27.105-07:002014-09-13T02:23:27.105-07:00Hi there, Could you recommend a way of removing pa...Hi there, Could you recommend a way of removing paint from a vellum surface? I have never painted on this surface and am just about to order some Kelmscott vellum from a UK supplier. I plan to create miniature landscapes, but it may all end disastrously! The advice on your blog is a tremendous help - and your work is amazing! johnbe1noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6401160288631130110.post-54774920608816801922013-12-15T06:50:59.483-08:002013-12-15T06:50:59.483-08:00Sow good, enter in my blog http://rafhaelribeiro....Sow good, enter in my blog http://rafhaelribeiro.blogspot.comRafhaelrhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05391968480473992812noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6401160288631130110.post-69418189444635037982013-10-14T21:15:43.592-07:002013-10-14T21:15:43.592-07:00Not nosey at all Dianne--thanks for your interest!...Not nosey at all Dianne--thanks for your interest! I am painting a twig from an oak tree that is native here in the PNW...or I should say attempting it. We'll see how it goes. The leaves are slowly taking shape...haven't tried the acorn yet.Janenehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08524256338602386374noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6401160288631130110.post-91063263519474678692013-10-12T06:12:06.354-07:002013-10-12T06:12:06.354-07:00Great post Dianne. When I was at the Chelsea Flori...Great post Dianne. When I was at the Chelsea Florilegium Sarah Gould gave a super demonstration on vellum. It was really interesting seeing her work. She had cut out A7 pieces of each different type of vellum (manuscript, natural, kelms, fake, possum skin, sheep skin, goat skin) and had painted something on each piece so you got an over all idea of how each piece compared. Then she taped them all (along the edges) to a piece of board which was passed around the group. It was a brilliant aid. Sarah paints on Manuscript number 1 and said that that too was pretty forgiving for the botanical artist. She found Kelms a bit too shiny I think. Anyway - it's fascinating stuff. Incredible to see the renaissance in vellum really - bet Cowleys are doing well! On another note - have you heard of artsorb? We here in the gallery frame all our vellums with a piece in the back to help with the humidity control. It's very clever stuff and well worth investing in.
